초고화질 디스플레이 컬러필터 기술 개발

초고화질 선명도를 가지면서도 가격은 더욱 저렴한 차세대 TV 상용화를 앞당길 수 있는 컬러필터 기술이 개발되었다. 한국연구재단(이사장 조무제)은 주병권 교수(고려대) 연구팀이 선명하고 해상도가 높은 색을 나타낼 수 있는 상보형 플라즈몬 컬러 필터를 개발했다고 밝혔다. 현재 디스플레이 산업에서 주로 사용하는 컬러필터는 안료나 염료를 이용한 광흡수 방식이다. 이는 유기재료를 기반으로 하기 때문에 화학적 안정성이 낮고, RGB 필터를 각각 제조해야 하기 때문에 단가가 높다. 반면 무기재료를 사용하는 광간섭 방식의 플라즈몬 컬러필터는 저렴한 비용으로 다양한 색의 필터를 동시에 제조할 수는 있으나, 나노 구조물의 이차원 배열에서 발생하는 색의 간섭 현상 때문에 색 순도가 저하되는 문제점이 있다.

LG DISPLAY has decided to change its business portfolio to concentrate organic light-emitting diode (OLED) business. Through the conference call that reported operating profits in the fourth quarter of 2016, LG Display announced on January 24 that it plans to invest some 5 trillion won in facilities this year, and put investment in OLED including Gen6 Plastic OLED and large-size OLED manufacturing facilities. Especially, its investment in OLED is expected to rise to 70% by 20% in 2017, compared to last year with a plan to expand the OLED market.

CES2017에서도 자동차용 디스플레이로 flexible OLED가 주력 제품으로 자리 잡고 있음이 pre-event의 Chrysler conference도 명확히 드러났다. 유비산업리서치에서 발간한 “Automotive Display Report – application & market trend analysis and the market forecast”에 따르면 OLED panel은 2018년부터 자동차의 cluster나 CID에 본격적으로 적용될 수 있을 것으로 예상했으며, 화질의 우수성과 flexibility를 바탕으로 프리미엄급 차량에 우선 적용될 것으로 내다봤다.
